5 Of My Goals For The Year – Wayfaring Kiwi

Has anyone else been feeling a bit ‘bleurgh’ lately? In case you didn’t know- that’s a real word! I love a word that emanates a feeling…

Anyway- I am constantly in a state of overwhelm because my mind works at a million miles an hour. I’m constantly coming up with new ideas and I have a hunger for learning new things. It’s quite exhausting having a to-do list that’s always a mile long!

Rather than thinking about New Year’s Resolutions (it’s too much right now!) I’ve decided to set myself some goals to achieve in the final months of 2021.

One. Complete the 90 Day To-Do List.

This course came at just the right time when I started to feel blocked and overwhelmed. I’ve recently been listening to the fantastic podcast The Glo Show by travel blogger and thought leader, Glo Atanmo.

This woman’s words are like FIRE to my soul. She’s honest, she’s relatable, and she knows her worth. Best of all, she knows what her life purpose is- helping people to build soul-led businesses- but also to live a fulfilling life.

If you’re an entrepreneur, I highly recommend her podcast. Her podcast isn’t all about entrepreneurship, however. It’s about life, learning, establishing boundaries and giving yourself grace. She’s basically my favourite person at the moment.

When she created her new course, The 90 Day To-Do List, I purchased it immediately. The idea behind it is to get a head start on 2022- and I love a to-do list. If I leave things floating around in my head they get forgotten!

So my goal is to put aside time every single day to complete the daily task, and hope that I arrive in 2022 feeling more inspired, motivated and refreshed.

Two. Complete my Christmas project.

I can’t give you too much information about my Christmas project right now (sorry!) because I haven’t launched this new product yet.

I can tell you that I’ve teamed up with an AMAZING artist to create this new product, and I just know that if you love Scotland, you will absolutely love it.

I’m currently working hard on this, and I hope that I’m able to get these wee beauties out to everyone for Christmas. Working full-time and balancing all my projects is quite difficult, and I wish I had more time to work on them- but it is what is it.

This project is very personal to me- and it’s related to my hike of the Scottish National Trail. That’s all I can say for now!

If you’d like to know exactly what this is, make sure you sign up to my email list because my newsletter subscribers will be the first to know when it launches!

Three. Complete our bedroom makeover and feature wall in our living room.

My goal is to have our bedroom and the living room complete for Christmas. We are having Christmas at our new house this year, and I’m totally in the Christmas spirit. I’ve never really gone big for Christmas- but now I can feel myself becoming more homely and I love the idea of creating a fun, happy and festive space.

Don’t worry- I’ll still be going on mad adventures, but it definitely feels nice to have a home now, and to not spend Christmas day in hostels!

Our bedroom is almost complete- we just need to fit a new light, buy some drawers and do a little more decorating.

I have big plans for the living room that involve building bespoke shelving into the walls- but for now I want to add some panelling to the feature wall and paint it, and then turn it into Santa’s cave for Christmas!

Four. Finish the 6 books I’m currently reading

I’m terrible for reading several books at the same time (anyone else?). In fact, after writing this post I’m also certain I have ADHD.

I’ve been dragging my heels on a few different books; I’m almost finished them, but I’m more excited about the new, shiny book that just arrived from Amazon.

In fact, I have at least 15 books on my shelf I haven’t even started yet. Hi, I’m Yvette and I have a book buying addiction.

Five. Check five things off my Scotland Bucket List

Ever since we moved into our new house I’ve wanted to spend more time at home DIYing and decorating, so I feel like I haven’t been out adventuring much!

I keep driving past the sign that points to Hopetoun House, and even though it’s so close, I’ve been meaning to visit it for months and haven’t. I’d also like to walk another section of the Fife Coastal Path; I’ve almost finished walking it section by section.

I have so many Scotland adventures still to do– and so many of these are on my doorstep, so I would love to tick some of these off. I feel like I put off visiting many of the places in my area because I think because they’re so close, I can do them anytime- and then I never end up doing them!

Do you put off adventures closer to home too? Let me know in the comments.

Bonus goal: Say no more

One thing I learned recently is that I have to protect my energy. Last year was crappy for a lot of people, and I found that a lot of people were coming to me with their problems. I was already dealing with my own struggles with anxiety and depression, and so I found it really hard to be a supportive friend and family member when my energy was so low.

All I know is, I was getting more stressed out when other people were leaning on me, and I wasn’t actually helping anyone by feeling shitty myself. I took a step back to focus on myself, and it was the best decision ever.

I’ve also realised that I’m not that good at being a therapist. Because I’m an empath, I take on negative energy very easily.

I’m basically a human energy sponge.

I want to help people, but I’ve realised I can’t be the go-to person whenever someone else has a problem.

Instead, I’ve realised that the way I want to help people is through writing. This way I’m still putting out positive energy, but I can protect my own. I need to practise this more, because I’m still bad at saying no when someone asks me for help!

What are your goals for the remainder of the year?

Did you know that by writing down your goals, you are 42% more likely to achieve them? Leave me a comment below and tell me what you’d like to achieve.
